Yum! Pancakes!

The Downtown Optimist Club depends upon one primary fundraiser each year to raise funds to support all of the programs we donate to in the Meridian area. That fundraiser is our Annual Pancake Jubilee. Usually, each year on one single day from 6:30am to around 7:00pm, we feed around 3,000 people all-you-can-eat pancakes with all the fixing’s including sausage, syrup, milk, soda and coffee. On average during that day we will cook more than 12,000 pancakes and 6,500 patties of sausage. Gallons of butter and syrup will be poured and thousands of cartons of milk and cans of Coco-Cola will wash it all down.

The DTOC Pancake Jubilee has been a favorite of Meridian and Lauderdale County residents for over 70 years and is one of the most anticipated events held in our fair city each year. Parents who have benefited from the resources generated by this unique event are now adults who bring their children and grandchildren each year to enjoy a grand time of food and fellowship with their neighbors. We like to say that Pancake Jubilee is “Meridian’s Front Porch” where friends can gather, eat some great food, support a great cause, relax and enjoy themselves all at the same time.

Unfortunately this year, we have had to adjust our event this year to protect everyone as much as possible from COVID. In fact, we’ve changed our location and our methods in order to hold the safest possible event for our customers and our volunteers.

This year our event will take place on Tuesday, March 23, 2021 at the Hamasa Shrine Building in Marion from 6:30am until 2:00pm. The event will be a drive-thru pick-up event with no sit-down, in-house eating and no drink service. Plates will be $5.00 each and will include pancakes, sausage, butter, syrup and utensils. We are looking forward to having a great event in spite of the changes and we hope you’ll support our efforts. The hope is that by the time our 75th Pancake Jubilee comes around all of this caution will be a thing of the past and we’ll be able to gather together again on “Meridian’s Front Porch!
