Guest Speaker: MSgt Ray U Urban, USMC WWII – Korea Veteran

IMG_1023The DTOC was honored to have MSgt Ray U. Urban of Bossier City, LA speak and entertain our club with stories about his experiences in World War II as well as the Korean War. Mixing serious comments with humor and lots of interesting facts, Urban gave everyone some insight into what it was like to live and fight in those terrible conflicts.

Urban detailed how the game of Monopoly was modified to provide POW’s with maps and real money to be used when they escaped from their POW camps. His talk included information on groups we seldom hear of today: The Flying Tigers, Montford Point Marines, Tuskegee Pilots, Coast Watchers, Seabees and many more. The room was surrounded by posters and advertisements from the day, the 92 year old US Marine reminded all of us of the gift of Freedom given to us by the Greatest Generation.

Urban is a Trustee of American Legion Post #14, a member of Veteran of Foreign Wars Post #4588 – Marine Corps League, a member of the Bossier Council on Aging Advisory Council, a member of Bossier Chamber of Commerce, Past President of Optimist Club, Alexandria, LA and of the Lions Club, Mansfield. He is a business owner and former Deputy Sheriff of Rapides Parish.
