Mississippi Scholars is a state-wide program developed by the Mississippi Economic Council that partners with public education in Mississippi.  The goal is to encourage and motivate all high school students to complete a defined, rigorous academic course of study that prepares them for successful transition to college, university coursework or vocational and technical training necessary to enter today’s competitive job market. Students earn monetary scholarships by getting good grades, taking a rigorous schedule, and exhibiting good citizenship and behavior.

Each student who completes the program receives a medallion, a certificate and a small scholarship they can use toward college. The stated goal is to increase both the number of students recognized in Lauderdale County, and by doing so, encourage educational excellence in students in our community.
