DTOC Helps Local Organizations Bring Christmas To Children (2018)

L to R: DTOC President Lee Thaggard, Philip Price (Little Men Mentors), Young Kim (Salvation Army), Melissa Labelle (The Debs), Lt. Debra Young (Christmas With A Cop), Gary Turbville (Cans For Kids) and Ron St. John (Chunky River H.O.G)

On Tuesday, December 11th, 2018, The Downtown Optimist Club celebrated their tradition of giving back to the youth of our community during the Holiday season!

Each year, the DTOC makes donations to local organizations who help make sure Santa Claus can visit as many children as possible. Again year, the DTOC made donations totaling $5,000 to the following organizations: Cans For Kids, Christmas With A Cop, Salvation Army, Chunky River Harley Davidson HOG Toy Ride, and Little Men Mentors.

The DTOC was is very proud to include The Debs Service Club in our celebration of giving. The Debs (a group of very community minded girls) assist the DTOC each year in lots of ways, but one of the most important ways is at Christmas time. The DTOC provides funding to the Debs who then go and purchase as many toys as possible and deliver those toys to the Salvation Army to use with their Angel Tree project. This is a great opportunity for the Debs to give their time and to learn how to maximize their purchasing power all for the good of the youth of our community.

At the meeting, each organization got the opportunity to update the club members about their plans for Christmas and their successes over the past year. Based on the number provided to us at the meeting more than a thousand children will have presents on Christmas morning because of the efforts of these groups! Community support of these organizations is vital for them to fulfill their mission of helping Santa deliver Christmas to everyone!
