DTOC Donates $10,000 To Jeannie’s Place at Planet Playground

On Tuesday, December 18th, 2018, The Downtown Optimist Club completed a commitment to match up to $10,000 in donations for Jeannie’s Place at Planet Playground, located at Northeast Park and presented Leigh Thomas, the executive director of the Community Foundation of East Mississippi, a check for $10,000 for Jeannie’s Place at Planet Playground. The donation was presented by DTOC President Lee Thaggard.

The donation was to help the community rebuild the playground making it accessible for children of all abilities. The donation was inspired by the early fundraising efforts of Lamar students William Lamar and Jake Davidson. The young men quickly raised the matching $10,000 in donations by early November, then in December the DTOC presented their check to the Community Foundation.
